Krispy Kreme. Burbank

I think it's fitting to establish the quest for the perfect donut in LA by first reviewing Krispy Kreme. Praised by some, despised by others- Krispy Kreme sets the bar for quality and consistency in the Original Glazed Donut category... or does it? The phenomena of a piping-hot, melt-in-your-mouth donut is a feature unique to this establishment and with it comes the inevitable tendency to over-indulge. Dana swears by Krispy Kreme and crowns it her favorite chain donut. I also enjoy the hot hot goodness but feel Krispy Kreme is a one trick pony. Our visit on this particular Sunday may have been ill-timed as the "hot now" sign was not lit. So, here is what we ordered:
Dana: 2 original glazed donuts and a chocolate milk
Me: 2 original glazed donuts, 1 sugar donut, and a small coffee
The Verdict: In their ordinary room temperature state, the original glazed lacks that je ne sais quoi. While still extremely tasty, the glaze morphs into a shell and sits too heavy in the belly:

The sugar coated donut was good but not great, definitely not as good as any in your local donut shop. I think overall KK donuts are slightly too small which leads to overeating. If you're going to overeat at least make sure they're hot. Apparently at some point KK switched over to have Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf franchise within the store. I don't know about you, but I favor a cheap, working-man's cup o' joe with my donut. So, go to Krispy Kreme and enjoy.

*Destination Donut--- or--- Keep it Local: Destination (if you're in the mood for KK since it is in a league of its own)
*Cup Holder Change---or---Bust out the Wallet: Bust out the Wallet

Cleanliness verdict = pretty similar to a McDonalds, the only stipulation being our cashier had mouth herpes...yuck. However the taste was unaffected.
